- Transport Minister Anthony Loke confirmed the news during a site visit to the RTS Link project
If you've been following the RTS Link story, here's another piece of good news: the government has just approved a RM60 million bridge project that will connect the KTMB Komuter line directly to the Bukit Chagar RTS Station — no more detour through JB Sentral.
What's Happening
Transport Minister Anthony Loke confirmed the approval during a site visit to the RTS Link project. The bridge has been greenlit by the Ministry of Economy and will be built by the Ministry of Transport, with construction expected to take around 12 months.
Once completed, Komuter passengers will be able to walk straight from the Komuter platform to the RTS Station — a much shorter and more direct route than the current path via JB Sentral.
More Buses on the Way Too
The bridge isn't the only upgrade in the pipeline. The government is also rolling out Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) 2.0, which will add at least 200 new buses connecting residential areas around Johor Bahru to Bukit Chagar. The timing is deliberate — these buses are set to launch alongside the RTS Link, so passengers have multiple easy ways to reach the station from day one.
Between the bridge and the expanded bus network, Bukit Chagar is shaping up to be a genuine multi-modal transport hub — integrating RTS, Komuter, buses, and e-hailing services all in one place.
Where RTS Link Stands Right Now
Construction of the CIQ complex and station building is complete, and the project has moved into testing and commissioning. Operations are officially scheduled to begin on January 1, with the line expected to carry up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction between Bukit Chagar and Woodlands North in Singapore.
Why This Matters if You're Watching JB Property
This bridge might seem like a small logistical upgrade, but it's actually a meaningful signal for anyone tracking the JB property market. It shows the government isn't just building the RTS station — it's actively investing in the connective tissue around it, making the whole network more useful for daily commuters.
"For buyers and investors, that's exactly the kind of steady, incremental progress that strengthens the long-term case for properties near the RTS corridor and along the Komuter line. Better connectivity means a bigger pool of future tenants and residents who can realistically commute without needing a car — which is a big part of what makes transit-linked property attractive in the first place."
